INSPIRATION FROM MARTHA

This all started in Fredericton a few days back when I saw an area of resources in Staples with Martha Stewart's name plastered on everything.  Being a fan of organization, and being sure that the only reason my 'stuff' looks so cluttery is because I do not have just the right materials to organize, I was drawn but I had to resist. I was a woman on a mission and there was no time to stop and feul my inspiriation that day.  It had to wait. And wait I did.
We were in Moncton and with a bit of time on my hands, I browsed with fascination  It was wonderful; coupon folders that didn't have holes between the deviders, packages to hold warranty items to the side of appliances, binders of lovely colors and in two sizes so that you could buy two different sizes of inserts instead of just one and labels that looked like something I would have designed if I were the designer.  Yes, things were just as I thought they would be.  Boxes made to stack and fit together so you could move them around and just have one cover on top.  Letter organizers etc and there, along the wall, THE BEST THING ever!!  yes, it was folders made to hang on the wall and each had two pockets on them.  They were pretty colors, full of potential and inspiration galore.  I had to go home and make them.  I just had to.  If I made them I imagined my room magically looking so nice.  Those folders would be the answer to all my clutter and lost cards.  In fact, I would put the month on the front and I would never have to look for the cards that I made for birthdays again. They would be in the proper folder for the proper month just to take out and mail.  Yes, I was excited.
So, I came home and I hunted down and selected any material that would work to make the back of folders.  I opened packages of paper and snatched out cardboard that would do the trick.  I assembled my paper and I looked through for quick inspiration; i needed colors that would compliment each other and look attractive on my wall.  Yes, there they were!  Yellow, green, grey and a crossover mix that I can't quite describe.  I cut,I trimmed, I sprayed with adhesive, I cut out the names of each month with my cricut and gypsy and I assembled.  Then I realized that I should have calculated how much paper I needed for that job.  Wow, I was running out fast.  Okay, plan!  Just introduce another color and mix it up a bit and no one will ever know.  So, I mixed it up a bit.  I discovered that I had cut one peice bigger than the others but I wasn't to be daunted.  I soldiered on always imagining how freeing it would be to just reach for the card I had made and not scrounge through too many cards to find the right one.  Last year on Mitchel's birthday I had slaved over his card and hid it so I could give it to him on his birthday.  Yes, I hid it.  I am learning that at my age hiding things isn't the best idea because for one thing he wouldn't see it anyway, and secondly, i can't remember that 'hiding spot'.
Now back to matters at hand;  I finished the last of the pocket folders and I scrutinized them for errors and imperfections but that is just a practice I do.  Then I spent the next hour rationizing why that won't matter.  A little bigger, a little smaller and the colors were mixed up.  I pushed down the knowledge that they weren't really looking as color coordinated as I had intended and stood back looking for a space ont he wall that could handle 12- 81/2 x11 folders.  No problem; I would just move the stamp pads that had found a home on that wall and move them.  I took down a thing or two and got the nails and hammer from the garage.  I set to work.  I hung them all quite carefully along the wall with two rows of folders.  After consecutively getting the months hung I stood back and cocked my head to one side.  Incidently, Mitchel says I look like a partridge when i do that.  After looking at it from several angles there is just one conclusion.  I spent 3 days making my craft room uglier than I thought possible.  Now, I am wondering where I can hide that many folders so that they are not wasted but out of sight.
Folders anyone????
